Split by hours worked. Check your local tip-pooling rules (e.g. who may be included) before applying.

How tips are split

This uses the most common method: split by hours worked. Each person's share is the total tips × (their hours ÷ everyone's hours). So on a $300 pool where someone worked 6 of 30 total team hours, they get $300 × 6/30 = $60. Equal-split or points-based methods exist too — but hours-based is the fairest default for mixed shifts.

SyncBite tracks tips, hours and tip-out per shift automatically — so payout is done before anyone clocks out.

FAQ

Is splitting tips by hours fair?

It's the most common and defensible method for a shared pool: someone who worked twice as long gets twice the share. Some teams weight by role instead — but hours-based avoids arguments.

Can I include the kitchen or managers?

It depends on your jurisdiction — many places restrict who can be in a tip pool (e.g. managers/owners often can't). Add only eligible team members and check your local rules.
